Pride 2025

I originally hadn’t planned on doing a Pride blog, but with everything going on, I thought it was crazy not to! Pride Month has been replaced in the White House with Title IX month, trans people have been removed from the military, the US Supreme Court has knocked down gender affirming care for minors, the Kennedy Center has cancelled drag shows & etc., the deletion of the LGBTQ+ suicide prevention line, and the most anti- LGBTQ+ bills in history have been filed in 2025 with 850+ bills. It’s been a rough month and so far a rough year for our community!

Pride Organization was created for these types of moments in our history.  The Stonewall Riots was the beginning of our fight for civil liberties.  I decided to do my blog on this topic because of a pink haired young man on a Facebook reel stated that Pride month wasn’t about pride, but societal shame.  That broke my heart to hear, but I get it, it took me 70 years to accept and love myself, but also to face the feelings and fear that the world was against us.  I get it.

At 79 what I can tell you without a doubt is that you have to define who you are and then you have to accept who you are and usually the hardest thing is loving yourself. Society cannot define you. Pride events are meant for us to connect with others like us, so we know we are not alone, but also to recognize, honor those of our past that fought for us today.  To understand that the fight isn’t over because the world must understand that we are a normal part of it; we have always been here and will always be here. They cannot erase us, nor will we accept being erased without a fight.  No one has the right to judge you. If you are feeling like you need to be rescued then let me show you some of our super heros!
